THE GOLD RUSH

The Gold Rush !

1.
The Gold Rush was a 1925 silent film comedy written, produced, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin.  He played the role of a little tramp.  This means he was the underdog in the whole film and it made the audience root for him.  I found myself cheering him on in some scenes.  In an article published by Tuner Classic movies it states that    "The Gold Rush has been cited by the International Film Jury as the second greatest film of all time (after Battleship Potemkin, 1925),and Chaplin said it was the film he would most like to be remembered by.Today The Gold Rush remains one of cinema's enduring comedy classics, starring, written and directed by the twentieth century's first media superstar."

(http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/5779/The-Gold-Rush/articles.html) I would agree with this statement because even though this movie was made a long time ago in the 1920's with out people in the movie speaking, I found myself laughing and it rivals many slapstick comedy's put out today.

3. This relates to what we learned in class because In the new years eve scene where charlie is waiting for the woman he loves at the table by himself,  I found that even though this was a comedy, he was able to capture raw emotion.  This made me rethink the movie in a whole.  It was not just a comedy but a window into social and economic problems at the time .
4.
In all i enjoyed this movie, I look forward to watching more movies done by Chaplin.  I was amazed that this movie had no vocal sounds, but still kept the watcher entertained.  I would say this comedy rivals many comedy's put out today.  This movie is a social satire that looks into some of the problems of society at that time.  It will reel you in with comedy then knock you on the head with reality and truths.  I recommend this movie for any movie buffs GO SEE IT!
